The book consists of a series of lectures at the University of Manchester in 1967 by practitioners and theoreticians in the special operations field. The evolution of political war is described where cultural, social, and economic factors—constituting the fourth dimension of warfare—bear heavily on victory or defeat. The aggressive use of intelligence and subversion is emphasized and explained.
